Shake 'N Bake BBQ is Grand Champion in Quartzsite

Shake 'N Bake BBQ has won the 2017 Outwest Food Fest BBQ Competition in Quartzsite, AZ. Travelling from New Haven, MO, the team took 2nd Place Chicken, 1st Place Ribs, 10th Place Pork & 3rd Place Brisket to earn a total score of 702.8688.

The Reserve Grand Championship went to Gettin' Basted, from Springfield, MO, on the strength of 9th Place Chicken, 7th Place Ribs, 4th Place Pork & th Place Brisket, finishing with a score of 695.9544.

This first year contest featured a $50,000 prize fund and hosted a field of 34 teams travelling from 10 different states: Arizona, California, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska & Iowa.

GCSBBQA Website & GCSBBQ Forum Site RSS Feeds

In order to make it easier for our vistors to know when we've updated our website, we've added an RSS feed. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and subscribing to our feed will allow you to know when we update our site without having to actually visit.

As an example, we've added an RSS feed from our forum site which you can see at the right side of the GCSBBQA home page. Every time a new topic is started there, it will automatically appear in the GCSBBQ Forum Feed box.

Like the Forum Feed, our RSS feed will contain a title for the new content, a brief introduction and a link to where it appears on our site. All you need to do is click on the link and you'll be taken directly to the new material.

In order to use an RSS feed, you'll need to choose an RSS reader. One of the best we've found is called Feedly. It's a free web-based reader (registration required) and has a corresponding mobile app for both Android and iPhone. This will allow you to read our feed and any others you like on your computer and mobile device and all your content will be synced. You can also use your email client to receive RSS feeds. In order to make that happen, we recommend you search something like this: "receive rss feed in gmail" or whatever email client you use. Those results should help you get that set up.

Regardless of how you choose to download your feeds, one thing you'll need is the feed URL. That will usually be found by clicking on the RSS symbol that you see on a site's page. Typically, a new browser window will open. Copy the URL from that page and paste it into the appropriate location in your feed reader according to their directions.

The URL for the GCSBBQA website feed is http://www.gcsbbqa.org/gcsbbqa_rss.xml and the URL for our Forum site feed is http://www.grandcanyonstatebbq.com/gcsforums/external.php.

We also have a new place on our Forum site called "The Feed Bag" where we've subscribed to the RSS feeds from a few barbeque related websites and blogs. We'll add more in the coming months but we hope you'll enjoy what we have so far.

Shig Ninja BBQ Wins in Bullhead City

The 3rd Annual Slab-O-Rama Barbeque Challenge was held on January 20-21 in Bullhead City, AZ. In a field of 40 teams, Shig Ninja BBQ from Chandler, AZ earned the event Grand Championship with a total score of 697.0972. The Reserve Grand Championship went to GCSBBQA Member Justin Coffini of Steel City BBQ from Gilbert, AZ with a total score of 696.5028.

It was a tight battle between these two teams with the margin of victory of just 0.5944 points. But, on the strength of perfect 180 point scores in both Chicken and Pork, Shig Ninja BBQ won the top prize. Rounding out the Top 5 was Dry To Da Bone in 3rd, Hickory and Spice BBQ in 4th and Smokin' Mo's BBQ in 5th.

The Sam's Club National BBQ Tour Is Back!

The richest barbeque contest series in America, the Sam's Club National BBQ Tour, is back for another run in 2017. 750 teams from across the country will be competing for a total prize purse of $500,000 and one team will win $50,000 as the National Grand Champions

The defending champs are our very own Darren & Sherry Warth of Iowa's Smokey D's BBQ. Darren & Sherry have a second home here in Arizona and are Lifetime Members of the Grand Canyon State BBQ Association.

Contests here in Region 4 begin in Tucson on March 18th and continue with events in Reno NV, Renton WA, Salt Lake City UT and Fort Collins CO on each of the following weekends. The Top 6 teams at each of these contests will advance to the Regional event in Las Vegas NV on April 22nd and the Top 10 finishers there will compete in the National Finals in Bentonville AR this fall.

2017 - A Quick Look Ahead

Happy New Year! 2017 is off to a busy start for barbeque in Arizona.

The GCSBBQA will begin the year with an election to fill seats on our Board of Directors and, in the months ahead, we'll be working with our friends at BBQ Island on events at all of their locations.

Speaking of BBQ Island, they've opened a new location in Peoria in addition to their Tempe and Scottsdale stores. Also on the business side, a favorite valley restaurant, Q-To-U-BBQ, has moved from Anthem to Cave Creek and into a beautiful new restaurant. Be sure to check them both out!

On the competitive side, there are barbeque competitions in Bullhead City & Quartzite in the month of January, the Sam's Club National BBQ Tour returns to Tucson in March and Show Low will be hosting their 5th Annual BBQ Throwdown in May.

GCSBBQA 2016 Charity Raffle Results

The GCSBBQA 2016 Charity Raffle, held at our 3rd Annual Holiday Pot Luck Social, was a huge success!

We raised $2,871 which we donated to Toys For Tots - Maricopa along with a large number of new, unwrapped toys that were donated by our party guests. Our grand prizes were a GMG Daniel Boone pellet grill/smoker donated by BBQ Island Inc. and won by Aaron & Christa Moon of San Tan Valley and a GMG Davy Crockett pellet grill/smoker donated by Green Mountain Grills and won by Johan & Cheryl Magnusson of Scottsdale.

Pictured here is SSgt Robert Martin, the Unites States Marine Corps Toys For Tots Coordinator for Maricopa County, accepting our doantion. In the three years we've held our Charity Raffle, we've raised over $6,300, all of which has been donated to Toys For Tots-Maricopa.

The date has already been set for next year's event so please mark your calendar for Saturday, December 2, 2017 and plan to join us for an evening of great food, great friends and great fun as we raise money for a great cause!

GCSBBQA Holiday Pot Luck Social & Charity Raffle

On Saturday, December 17th, the GCSBBQA will hold its 3rd Annual Holiday Pot Luck Social & Charity Raffle to benefit Toys For Tots.

This casual Pot Luck event gives our Members and Friends a chance to gather in a relaxed setting, enjoy a great meal, have some fun and raise money for Arizona children in need.

Our Charity Raffle features items that have been donated by national companies, local businesses and our own Members and Friends. Prizes range in value from $400 to $10 and you don't have to be present at the party to win.Raffle tickets cost $10 each (or 6 for $50) for our Grand Prizes and $5 (or 6 for $25) for our General Prizes. In addition to 100% of the raffle proceeds, we also donate a large number of new, unwrapped toys to Toys For Tots.
